Hello! We are Britt and James, a Melbourne couple who have embarked on a 4WD adventure around Australia. We love everything outdoors and cannot wait to explore our home country in our beloved ‘Tinker’ truck. “All the gear and no idea” describes us well at the moment. We both have very little 4wd-ing experience, so we are putting a lot of trust in Tinker to get us from A to B.
As well as having a keen sense of adventure, we both are Osteopaths with a great passion for the human body and human movement. We have decided to combine these two loves and practice Osteopathy whilst on the road.
Nomadic Osteos will allow us to introduce Osteopathy to those living in rural and remote areas of Australia. We understand that many of us rely on our body for the daily tasks of life and our aim is to help alleviate any aches and pains that may be hindering us from living to our fullest potential. We are also very excited to meet and chat with people from all walks of life, and are grateful that Nomadic Osteos will allow us to do just that.
Along the way, we will be documenting our travels, mishaps, and all things osteopathy, which will be posted on our YouTube channel.
Osteopathy is a manual therapy with a head to toe approach. This means we understand the relationship between structure and function of the body, while appreciating that the body has the ability to heal itself.
Having this knowledge allows us to identify the root cause of your pain and/or restriction, before creating a treatment plan that provides you with immediate and long term relief.
What you can expect from your treatment, is a client centred approach with a focus on the musculoskeletal system.
The techniques we use to achieve this are:
- Soft tissue massage
- Joint mobilisation and manipulation
- Muscle Energy Techniques
- Myofascial Dry Needling
- Exercise Rehabilitation
- Ergonomic Education
As Australian Osteopaths, we have completed a 5 year university degree, are AHPRA registered practitioners and have a Working With Children's Check.
Osteopathic treatment is included in most private health ‘extras’ policies.

My name is James, and I am an Osteopath who enjoys providing people with a customized treatment plan.
I understand that each individual is different, and therefore a cookie-cutter approach is not going to be able to help everyone.
To ensure that I am able to tailor a treatment plan for you, I continue to complete additional qualifications, so as to provide you with more than one treatment approach.
I am able to offer both a direct and indirect treatment approach, as a result of my experience and qualifications which are listed below:
I am very passionate about taking a very client-centred approach to treatment.
This means that you can expect to be involved in your diagnosis, the techniques used as well as the exercises recommended. This is done, to ensure that you leave each treatment feeling educated and empowered on your present condition, while having the confidence of being in control of your outcomes.
Having already spent time working as an Osteopath in Canada, I am very excited to travel every inch of Australia, and bring Osteopathy to those who need it!
Hi! My name is Britt and I am the other osteopath of Nomadic Osteos.
I have always had a keen interest in human anatomy and biology, which is what first drew me to Osteopathy. Since then, my fascination with the human body has grown due to its innate ability to heal. As an osteopath, I understand the importance of appropriately facilitating this process, which one of the primary goals of every treatment.
I take quite a structural approach to treatment, using movement assessments as a baseline to build on during the appointment. I use mainly direct treatment techniques to work through areas of restriction and pain, with the goal of improving your pain free range of motion. To enhance my ability to do so, I have completed extra education in Advanced Dry Needling, which you can learn more about in our FAQs.
At the end of your appointment, you can expect to feel empowered by a new found understanding of your present condition. You will also be educated on how you can help your body to heal moving forward and of course you can expect to be moving a lot better than when you first walked in the door.
Hi There,
My name is Tinker, and I am the one who is responsible for bringing these 2 Osteopaths to your town.
I was born in 2006 and only have 137,000kms on the clock, so there is a lot of life left in me. This youth, along with being a 79 series, gives me confidence that I’ll be able to get them wherever they want to go; despite their limited 4WD knowledge.
Although I do have my questions about how well Britt and James will handle the Australian landscape, I am pretty excited to be the one who gets to provide them with the opportunity to combine their loves of Osteopathy and Travel!
For those who are wondering how I got my name, let me explain.
My travel companions are Nomadic Osteos.
There were 3 types of Nomads in this world: Pastoral, Hunter Gatherers and Tinker Traders.
One of the things that Tinker Trader Nomads were known for, was repairing the tools that people needed for work. They were the multifaceted mechanics of the Nomad world.
The name Tinker is fitting, as I’m responsible for bringing the Nomadic Osteos to your community so they can help repair your most important tool. Your body!
In an initial osteopathy consultation, we will take a thorough medical history, talk about the pain you are experiencing, do a comprehensive movement assessment and then formulate and initiate a treatment plan. You will experience some immediate relief following this treatment. This appointment is necessary for anyone who has not seen either Britt or James before.
~ 45 MINS ~
In a return osteopathy consultation, we will touch base and discuss your progress and reassess your mobility. The appointment will be primarily based around treatment and furthering your exercise prescription. This appointment is for you if you have seen either Britt or James in the past.
~ 30 MINS ~
This appointment is for return patients who would like a dry needling focussed treatment.

Osteopaths take a very head to toe approach, as they believe that:
1. Your body is a unit
2. If the function of a joint changes so too does its structure, and vice versa
3. Your body has its own self healing mechanisms.
Meaning that Osteopaths want to identify both what is causing your pain, and why. Techniques used to achieve this are termed direct and indirect, with the difference between the two being explained in a further FAQ.
This differs to both Physiotherapists and Chiropractors, as treatment with a:
1. Physiotherapist will typically involve less hands on therapy and more exercise prescription
2. Chiropractor focuses on influencing the nervous system through manual therapy, rehabilitation and lifestyle advice.
Both treatment techniques aim to improve range of motion, reduce tightness and decrease pain levels. The way they achieve this aim however, is different.
In general, direct treatment means finding the restriction and working through it.
Examples of this include:
- Massage - Joint Articulation
- Joint Manipulation - Dry Needling
- Myofascial Release - Muscle Energy Techniques
Whereas indirect treatment means, finding the position of most comfort, to allow the body to relax. Examples of this include:
- Counter-Strain - Balanced Ligamentous Tension
- Cranial-Sacral - Facilitated Positional Release
In short, we cannot answer that for you, as it is really a personal decision. The 3 disciplines are all very similar, with us all studying for 4 to 5 years, while being registered with AHPRA and therefore nationally regulated.
Most importantly though, we all aim to improve the function of your body.
The difference really comes from each disciplines treatment method, and their own philosophy behind it. Which you can read in a separate FAQ.
To put it simply, each discipline has the ability to help resolve any pain and/or restriction you may be feeling. With it being up to you as the individual, to decide which approach is best designed to help achieve your outcomes.
Dry Needling is a technique whereby thin, acupuncture needles are inserted into a specific target area of the body that may be causing pain.
The main type of dry needling that Nomadic Osteos will use is Myofascial Dry Needling, a treatment modality effective for treating muscle pain. Myofascial trigger points are taut bands of muscle fibres often causing pain locally and in a predictable referral pattern.
Myofascial Dry needling works by relaxing the taut muscle fibres, reducing pain and reducing local inflammation, all aiding in restoring normal function of that particular muscle.
Dry Needling can also involve treatment of connective tissue, periosteum and other structures within the body. All dry needling modalities aim at reducing pain and restoring full function of the target tissue.
In an appointment that involves dry needling, you will be educated on the risks, benefits and alternative treatment options prior to the commencement of a dry needling treatment. You are always entitled to opt out of this treatment modality at any stage of the treatment.
Dry Needling is defined as a a rapid, short term needling to altered or dysfunctional tissues in order to improve or restore function. It is specific to a target tissue. It may be performed by an acupuncture needle or any other injection needle without the injection of fluid.
Dry Needling treats mainly pain arising from muscle tissue or myofascial tissues.
Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific acupuncture points along the skin of the body, involving various methods such as penetration by thin needles of the application of heat, pressure or laser light.
